Shipping Policy
Blue Sky Cashmere ships from our vertically integrated mill in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Every shipment leaves our facility with full traceability documentation: yarn batch, knit/weave record, finishing log, and a packing list referencing the buyer's PO.
This policy covers samples, development orders, and full production runs. Lead times, freight terms, and carrier selection are confirmed in writing on the proforma invoice for each engagement.
Origin
All goods originate at Blue Sky Cashmere, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Country of origin on commercial invoices reads Mongolia, which qualifies for preferential tariff treatment under several trade agreements (including GSP schemes in Japan, the EU, and the United Kingdom — verify current eligibility with your customs broker).
We can provide Certificates of Origin (CO) upon request, charged at cost.
Sample shipments
Sample yarn cards, fabric swatches, and stock garment samples are shipped via international express courier (DHL, FedEx, or UPS depending on destination and carrier availability from Ulaanbaatar).
- Lead time: Samples typically dispatch within 5–10 business days of order confirmation, provided requested items are in inventory. Custom-dyed yarn cards or bespoke fabric swatches may add 1–3 weeks.
- Transit time: Express courier from Ulaanbaatar to most international destinations is 4–7 business days.
- Cost: Sample shipping is charged at cost on the proforma invoice. Express courier from Mongolia typically ranges USD 60–180 per sample shipment, depending on destination, weight, and dimensional volume.
- Tracking: A tracking number is sent by email at dispatch.
We can also arrange shipment on the buyer's nominated courier account if preferred. In that case the buyer provides the account number and we will not charge shipping; duties and taxes will be billed by the carrier directly to the buyer.
Production shipments
Production orders ship per the Incoterm specified on the proforma invoice. We commonly use:
- EXW Ulaanbaatar — buyer arranges carriage from our mill. Buyer or buyer's nominated freight forwarder takes custody at our loading bay.
- FCA Ulaanbaatar (UBN) — we deliver to a named carrier at Chinggis Khaan International Airport or to a nominated road carrier; risk and cost transfer at that point.
- CPT or CIP [named destination port/airport] — we arrange and pay carriage to the destination; risk transfers when the goods are handed to the first carrier. Insurance is included under CIP.
- DAP [named destination] — we arrange carriage to the buyer's nominated location. The buyer is responsible for import duties, taxes, and customs clearance.
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is available by exception, on routes where we have an established broker. DDP requires written confirmation of the destination customs value, applicable duty rates, and our agreement before order confirmation.
Lead times by product category
Lead times below are typical and confirmed against current capacity at the proforma stage. Peak season (May–September, when our mill prepares for autumn/winter retail seasons) may add 1–2 weeks across all categories.

Lead times begin on the date of PPS approval and receipt of the deposit, not the date of initial inquiry. Sampling (typically 2–3 weeks) is in addition to production lead time.
Freight modes
We ship by air freight as the default for sample orders, urgent production, and any shipment under approximately 200 kg.
For larger production shipments we offer:
- Air freight — 5–10 business days transit, suitable when speed matters or quantities are small.
- Sea freight (LCL or FCL) — 35–55 days door-to-door to most major ports, suitable for cost-sensitive bulk orders. We can consolidate at Tianjin, China for outbound shipping.
- Road freight to China + onward sea freight — sometimes cost-effective for very large orders to the Americas and Europe.
The recommended mode is included on the proforma invoice based on the order's size, urgency, and destination. We are happy to quote alternative modes on request.
Insurance
All air freight shipments arranged by Blue Sky Cashmere are insured at 110% of invoice value with the marine cargo insurance carried by our forwarder, unless the buyer instructs otherwise in writing. Insurance is included in the freight cost under CIP and CIF Incoterms; under other terms it appears as a separate line on the proforma invoice.
For shipments under buyer-nominated forwarders, the buyer is responsible for arranging insurance.
Customs, duties, and taxes
Cashmere products are classified under HS codes 5102 (raw fibre), 5108 (yarn), 5111/5112 (woven fabric), 6110 (sweaters), and adjacent headings depending on construction. Country of origin is Mongolia.
- Under DAP, FCA, EXW, FOB, CIF, CPT, CIP terms, the buyer (or buyer's broker) clears the goods at the destination and is responsible for import duties, VAT/GST, and any clearance charges.
- Under DDP terms (where agreed in writing), Blue Sky Cashmere or our nominated broker manages clearance; the price quoted is inclusive of duties and taxes for the destination specified.
We provide the following with every export shipment: - Commercial invoice - Packing list - Certificate of Origin (on request) - Phytosanitary certificate where required (e.g. India, Australia, New Zealand) - HS-coded item descriptions to assist customs classification
Restricted destinations
We currently do not ship to: countries subject to comprehensive trade sanctions administered by the UN Security Council, the United States Department of the Treasury (OFAC), or the European Union. Buyers in jurisdictions where local import of cashmere or wool requires a specific licence are responsible for obtaining and providing that licence before shipment.

Delivery, title, and risk
Title to the goods passes to the buyer when full payment has been received. Risk passes at the point indicated by the agreed Incoterm. Where the buyer fails to take delivery on the agreed date for reasons outside our control, storage charges may apply after a 14-day grace period.
A shipment delivered to the address on the buyer's PO is deemed delivered. If a different delivery location is required, the buyer must notify us at the proforma stage; address changes after dispatch are subject to carrier policies and may incur charges.
Tracking and proof of delivery
Tracking numbers are provided by email at dispatch for every shipment, with a link to the carrier's tracking portal. Proof of delivery (POD) is retained by our logistics team and available on request for 12 months after delivery.
For air-freighted production, we also share the Master Airway Bill (MAWB) and House Airway Bill (HAWB) numbers, plus the forwarder's contact for any inflight inquiries.
Delays
Carriers occasionally experience delays due to weather, customs holds, peak-season volumes, or aircraft routing changes. Where a delay is the carrier's responsibility, we will help the buyer trace the shipment and, where applicable, support an insurance claim or service-failure refund from the carrier.
Where a delay is on Blue Sky Cashmere's side — production behind schedule, raw material sourcing delays, finishing-machine downtime — we will notify the buyer within 5 business days of becoming aware of the delay, with a revised delivery date. Substantial delays beyond 30 calendar days of the agreed shipment date give the buyer the right to cancel any undelivered portion of the order and receive a refund of any deposit paid against the undelivered portion. Force majeure events are excepted; see the Terms of Service.

This policy is governed by the laws of Mongolia. Mandatory consumer protection laws of the buyer's country, where applicable, are unaffected.
