Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about partnering with Blue Sky Cashmere for your manufacturing needs.

Getting Started

Send us an enquiry through our Request a Quote form with your company details, product interest, estimated quantities, and timeline. Our B2B team will respond within 48 hours with initial feasibility, indicative pricing, and next steps.

Both. We partner with established luxury houses and with emerging brands launching their first cashmere programme. Our in-house design team can help early-stage brands with development, tech packs, and sampling — not just production.

Our headquarters and manufacturing facility are in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia — at the source of the world's finest cashmere. Our 197,500 sq ft vertically integrated facility houses dyeing, spinning, weaving, and knitting under one roof.

Cashmere is our signature fibre, but we also process sheep wool, camel hair, yak wool, and custom blends. We work across yarn, knitwear, and woven fabrics.

MOQs & Lead Times

Garment MOQs typically start at 50 units per colour, per size. Yarn MOQs are 100 kg per colour for both standard yarns and custom blends. Fabric MOQs vary by category — typically 100–300 m per colour; see the OEM page for the per-category breakdown. Exact MOQs depend on product complexity and material — we'll confirm at quotation.

Typical lead times from confirmed tech pack to delivery:

  • Yarn: 4–6 weeks
  • Knitwear: 6–8 weeks
  • Woven fabrics: 6–8 weeks
  • Custom-developed programmes: 10–14 weeks including sampling

Peak season (May–September) may add 1–2 weeks.

Rush production is possible on a case-by-case basis depending on current capacity and order size. Expedited lead times typically carry a surcharge. Contact us to discuss specific timelines.

We consider smaller first-order quantities for qualifying brands, particularly for a pilot programme or a limited drop. Reach out with details and we'll review.

Sampling & Development

Yes. We offer six sample formats: garment samples (finished pieces from our range or custom prototypes built to your tech pack), yarn cones (for hand-feel and in-house knitting trials), fabric swatches (10 × 10 cm pieces across gauges and structures), colour cards (a physical fan of all 63 standard shades on real cashmere), lab dips (custom Pantone-matched dye approvals), and fibre samples (raw and processed tufts for micron and staple assessment). See full specifications on the Sampling page, then submit a basket via Request a Sample.

No — every sample carries a fee, but 100% of the cost is credited back against your first bulk order above MOQ. Indicative pricing: garment samples from $80 / piece, yarn cones $150 / cone, fabric swatches $30 / swatch, single colour-card chips $30, the full 63-shade colour card $125 / fan, lab dips $75 / shade, and fibre samples $25 / sample. Samples ship paid; no fine print, no exceptions. Full breakdown on the Sampling page.

Lead times by format:

  • Garment samples: ex-stock instant · 2–4 weeks custom
  • Yarn cones: 1 week ex-stock · 3 weeks custom
  • Fabric swatches: 2 weeks ex-stock · 4 weeks custom
  • Colour card: 1 week ex-stock
  • Lab dips: 2–3 weeks per round
  • Fibre samples: 1 week ex-stock

Revisions on custom samples typically add 1–2 weeks per round.

A tech pack is the fastest path to an accurate sample and quotation. If you don't have one, our in-house design team can build one with you from a sketch, reference photo, or written description.

Yes. Send us the reference garment or a photo with measurements and we'll propose a construction plan, yarn composition, and gauge to achieve the same hand and silhouette.

Pricing & Payment

Pricing is quoted per order based on: composition, gauge, construction complexity, quantity, colour count, packaging, and any custom development work. We don't publish a generic price list because costs depend heavily on specification.

Primary invoicing is in USD or EUR. Other currencies can be arranged for established partners.

Standard terms for new clients: 30% deposit at order confirmation, 70% balance before shipment. Established partners may qualify for Net 30/60 terms after a trust period. We accept wire transfer as the default payment method.

Yes. Pricing improves at higher quantity tiers and for repeat seasonal programmes. Specifics are discussed at quotation.

Production & Quality

Our facility runs flat knitting from Stoll (Germany) and whole-garment knitting from Shima Seiki (Japan), spinning and finishing equipment from Savio, Bigagli, and PDM (Italy), and dehairing and combing equipment from Sheller (UK). Full details on our Mill page.

Standard gauges: 3GG, 5GG, 7GG, 7.2GG, 12GG, and 16GG. This range covers heavy outerwear weights through ultra-fine gauge knits.

Our standard cashmere fibre is 16 microns average with a 38–42 mm staple length. Blended compositions and alternative fibres (wool, camel, yak) are available across a range of specifications.

Standard yarn counts by fibre:

  • Cashmere: Nm 26/2, 28/2
  • Sheep Wool: Nm 12/1, 14.5/1, 16/1, 22/2
  • Camel and Yak: Nm 12/1, 14.5/1, 16/1, 22/2, 26/2

Single-ply and two-ply available across all fibres. Custom blends quoted on specification.

Yes. We hold MNS 6926:2021 certification for cashmere manufacturing and use FSC-certified packaging. Full traceability documentation is available for each shipment.

QC runs at every production stage: fibre grading at intake, yarn evenness and colourfastness testing post-spinning, dimensional and stitch inspection post-knitting, and hand-inspection of every finished piece before packaging. Specific test results can be provided per order on request.

Colour & Customization

We stock 63 standard colourways across our full fibre range. Browse the full palette on our Colour Card page. Custom Pantone matching and lab dips are available for orders above MOQ.

Yes. Send us a Pantone TCX or TPX reference and we'll produce a lab dip for approval before bulk dyeing. Custom colour MOQs start at 100 kg per colour.

Yes. We provide custom neck labels, care labels, hangtags, composition declarations, country of origin labels, and bespoke packaging under our OEM / Private Label service.

Yes. Common custom blends include cashmere/silk, cashmere/wool, cashmere/cotton, and cashmere/camel. Minimum blend MOQ is 100 kg per composition.

Yes. For partners running recurring programmes, we can consolidate multiple production runs into single shipments to reduce freight costs.

Sustainability & Sourcing

100% of our cashmere is sourced from Mongolian herding cooperatives we work with directly. Fibre is combed, not sheared, preserving both animal welfare and fibre integrity. Full traceability from herder to finished product.

Cashmere goats grow a soft undercoat in winter. Combing by hand during the spring moult gathers the soft fibre without cutting or stressing the animal. Shearing, by contrast, damages both animal welfare and fibre quality.

Yes. We provide traceability documentation linking finished products back to source fibre lots. Partners requiring specific certifications (SFA, GCS, etc.) should inform us at the quotation stage.

Our primary and transit packaging is FSC-certified. We use biodegradable garment bags and minimise plastic in all shipments. Details on our Sustainability page.
